Every year, Armchair Media (now part of If/Then) designs the event showcase: a 200 page magazine profiling event participants, displaying a calendar for the week, and providing a point of entry for the global design community.
The 2014 book’s art direction draws inspiration from midcentury designers like Paul Rand, Max Bill and Joseph Albers, and explores the intersection between the hand-done and the modern, the old and the new.
We used the typography spatially, wrapping it around the cover, pages and spreads. Antique Olive is used in multiple weights and is mixed with hand lettering.
Commissions from Atlanta artist and illustrators punctuate the book. The brief: creative license, but the pieces must use the MA 2014 red and blue.
A tour of the modernist homes in Atlanta is a popular part of the MA week. A fold out poster reveals the map of the buildings; on the reverse is a tile of the MA logo.
